Can I handle Newquay in the summer?

Another slight panic. People keep warning me against staying in Newquay during the summer. In a way, though, now that I’ve settled on Newquay in my mind it is going to take more to change it than it would have done a month ago! I do get ‘attached’ to ideas in that way.

Basically, I am confident that I can put up with the madness for two months - or even avoid it if I am very judicious. If I am proved wrong, I will doubtless admit it in these pages so don’t laugh at me.

However, places like Penzance and St Ives are still good alternatives, and it’s not too late to change my mind. I’m going to canvass a few more opinions.

I have found, by the way, that choosing to move somewhere so completely different from where I was brought up has encouraged me to seek advice and opinion from other people perhaps more than I ever have before. Usually I do what I like and don’t ask anyone’s opinion. Those of you who know me will probably agree that this is a positive development!

Stumble it!

I lived in Plymouth and travelled to Newquay at weekends.

Seeing as you’re from London I think you’ll be alright with the claustrophobia, crowds and fights.

But you won’t be able to drive easily unless it’s at night so be prepared for that.

I used to live in Plymouth and have a few friends in Newquay. I always always getting frustrated on the A30 - ok on the A38 but terrible on the A30. I got into back roads but it doesn’t really work.

Cheers for the info! I don’t drive at the moment, but it sounds like it will be an advantage rather than a disadvantage. I’ll be travelling by cycle or skateboard!
