Getting used to ebay

I have spent most of today reading pages of advice about buying and selling on ebay. There is a lot to get to grips with and it’s not all as simple as you might think.
Take recorded delivery, for example. If you don’t have proof of delivery, you have little recourse if your buyer says that they did not receive the item. However, some people say that sending something recorded delivery makes it more likely to be stolen and you can make a claim to Royal Mail for non delivery if you have proof of posting. Tricky to know what to do here. Using recorded delivery sounds like the sensible option — but maybe not if it’s the equivalent of writing ’steal me’ on the packet.
The ebay community boards seem to be very useful, particularly the ‘new to selling’ board. I’d recommend to anyone wanting to sell on ebay that they look at these boards first to avoid common pitfalls. There was also a series of articles in the Telegraph recently, about getting started with ebay.
I have also recently won my first auction on ebay but I am slightly concerned as it was on Wednesday and four days later I still haven’t heard from the seller. Significantly, I didn’t look at his feedback before bidding. If I had, I would have seen that although his feedback numbers look fine, he has had a bit of negative feedback in the last 6 months, including people not receiving the item. Oo-er! I will give him a few more days before taking further action.
