Leaving the rat race behind

My sister, who moved from London to a small town in Turkey, tells me that “the rat race is partly in your own head”. It takes a long time to unwind from the stress and pace of London life. You are also at the mercy of other people’s concept of time and time management, so you have to adjust to that.
An estate agent in Penzance told me that in London, people expect fast and efficient service and generally want to be left alone. In Cornwall, it is the opposite: people take their time but are keen to chat and show some interest in each other. Applying a London attitude to your service or business doesn’t go down well either with employees or customers.
So I can’t expect simply to leave this life behind, I need actively to change and adjust. The change itself may be stressful for a while.
